I remember the first time I watched a YouTube video of Broadway star Lindsay Mendez singing “Hand in Hand” by Kerrigan and Lowdermilk. It had been sent to me by my favorite client quartet, Momma’s Boys (now known as The Kelly Brothers), as a potential song to arrange for them. I was blown away by the performance, but also by the song. I had to immediately watch it again. And again. It’s certainly not a song everyone knows, but it’s worth getting to know. A barbershop quartet can’t do all the vocal gymnastics that Mendez does, but hopefully I was able to translate the optimistic feeling of twitterpation into barbershop form. The learning tracks for this song were done by Kohl Kitzmiller, one of the very best in the business.
