I have developed a reputation for specializing in barbershop arrangements of newer, more popular songs. And that’s by design – all else equal, I generally prefer to arrange songs that are younger than I am. But that doesn’t mean I don’t do older songs. The song for this week’s learning tracks and video can only be characterized as one of the Old Songs. It’s “Because,” written in 1903 and popularized by the great Perry Como. It’s short and simple and while it may not be hip, it is at the core of what barbershoppers love: emotional lyrics and ringy chords.
